Noise is ambient sound that is considered a nuisance. Noise may occur in the machine's environment or may be generated by the machine itself. Since the operator of the machine is not the only person affected by the noise impact, machinery should be designed where possible such that it does not generate a high noise level. Unavoidable noise must be limited as far as possible by suitable measures such as encapsulation or screening. Standards setting out how procedures for the measurement of noise emissions exist for a number of machine types.
