Open pallet changing system

Problems

Heavy loads often have to be handled with the adoption of unfavourable body postures during the loading and retrieval of workpieces into and out of machine tools. Problems with accessibility and the use of load handling equipment often arise particularly inside machines (see also EN 1005-2 and EN 1005-4).

Solution

The Handtmann pallet changer for vertical milling machines enables the tool pallets to be separated completely from the machine and placed on carriages in front of the machine. This produces a completely free area for preparing and fixing components. The unobstructed access enables components to be lowered into place from above by lifting gear and fixed by means of clamps at a favourable working height. The freedom for positioning of the interchangeable pallet within the workspace makes the component accessible from all sides (see EN 12417:2009, Section 5.2 and EN 13128:2009, Table 5). Owing to the changer employing two pallets, a workpiece can be machined whilst setup of another workpiece is in progress, thereby reducing the time pressure associated with the task.

Principle of operation

Decoupling of machine parts on which manual tasks are to be performed, in the interests of ergonomically more favourable positioning
