Start assist on the tiller

Problems

When pallet trucks are used to transport loads, the greatest effort is normally required at initiation of movement of the load. Under normal circumstances, loads are transported on smooth floors. Floor joints, drops on loading ramps or similar obstacles may however have to be overcome by brief exertion of a higher force (see also EN 1005-3).

Solution

The start-assist for pallet trucks exploits the lever principle of force transmission in that the movement of the tiller is transferred directly to the wheels by means of an engageable mechanism. This results in the force required for initiation of movement of the load being reduced substantially, without restrictions in the process of movement (see EN ISO 3691-5:2010, Annex A). The lever movement is identical to the normal movement of the tiller at the start of travel.

Principle of operation

  • Exploitation of existing components and forms of movement in order to magnify and transfer force
  • Use of lever principles for the reduction of force exertion
